Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program Regional Finalist – Meredith Prunty

Hopkinton Patch article 7/10/14

Today, the Kohl’s Department StoresKohl’s Cares® Scholarship Program honors nearly 200 deserving volunteers with $1,000 scholarships toward higher education.

Three youths from the Boston-area were chosen from more than 37,000 nominees nationwide for making a positive impact in their local communities.
“Kohl’s is proud to recognize the 182 regional winners nationwide for their dedication to making their communities a better place to live,” said Bevin Bailis, Kohl’s senior vice president, communications and public relations. “We commend these bright volunteers for being inspiring examples for others as they have made a difference in their own communities and touched the lives of others through their efforts.”

One of the Local recipients of $1,000 scholarships is Meredith Prunty, 18, Hopkinton. After learning a teenager committed suicide after being bullied, Meredith made it her mission to put an end to the problem. Meredith uses her social media sites, gives speeches and serves as the spokesperson for The Brand U R, an organization committed to promoting self-confidence.

Winners are chosen based on initiative, leadership, generosity and project benefits and outcome. Each regional-level winner qualifies for one of Kohl’s 10 national scholarships, which will be announced at the end of July. National winners will each receive a total of $10,000 in scholarships, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf. In total, Kohl’s will recognize more than 2,300 young volunteers with nearly $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Since the program began in 2001, Kohl’s has recognized more than 22,000 kids, including the 2014 winners, with more than $4.3 million in scholarships and prizes. The Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program is part of Kohl’s Cares, Kohl’s philanthropic program focused on improving the lives of children.

‘No childhood storybook romance in film’

Hi Everyone ! I have attached an article that was recently published on the Toronto Pictures network (link attached). The more I learn about Daria and Bruno – the more impressed I am by their commitment to change the world and make it a better place. I will be playing “Valerie” in this movie – a runaway trying to make it on the streets. You can see my picture below (2nd from right). I have been doing my research on child abuse and runaways  – I owe it to this production and to all the victims of child abuse to bring a great performance. I am also trying to arrange an interview with a runaway who had been living on the streets and currently is at a Boston shelter. I am throwing myself 150% into this role – I might appear to be “in character” on and off the set as we are filming as these emotions are not always easily turned off and on. I am looking forward to joining the crew soon in Brosov and taking my place in history.

Toronto Pictures new film “Abused in America”

I leave for Romania soon to play the role of  Valerie  in Toronto Pictures new film Abused in America. I am very impressed that Daria Trifo is so compassionate about Human rights and uses her smart business sense to make successful movies that embrace social issues. I admire successful women and try to learn from them. I look forward to working with both her and Bruno Pischiutta next month and am honored to be cast out of thousands who auditioned for my role. I plan to blog along the way about my adventures in Romania and on the film set. Due to a non-disclosure form I will limit my writings to approved subjects and I will also post a lot of pictures of beautiful Romania. I hope you enjoy it as much as I know I will!
